BJE convenes the Religious School Educators Network to connect local religious school educators to each other and provide a space for learning and sharing best practices.
The Religious School Educators Network, an established and treasured collaborative group, meets eight times per year drawing religious school directors, educators and administrators from Thousand Oaks, to Pasadena, to San Pedro. The Network focuses on religious school innovation, best practices implementation, and works collaboratively on the common components that we share including recruitment and retention, and improving the quality of education in our institutions. These topics are explored within the context and freedom that only a professional network can provide: promoting institutional ‘self-disclosure’ and collaboration.
In addition to Network meetings, the Network will continue to host two professional development opportunities for religious school teachers based on the international EdCamp model, which empowers educators as both teachers and learners. This model has been adapted as JEDCamp and was successfully tested in Los Angeles this past year. The first LA JEDCamp for religious school teachers took place over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend.
2016-2017 JEDCamp dates will be announced in the late Fall.
