BJE's Center for Excellence in Complementary Jewish Education provides programs and services that benefit more than 10,000 children, fostering student learning and nurturing a love of Judaism. Complementary Schools (formerly known as Religious Schools or Hebrew School) seek to meet the educational needs of children and families in spite of the challenges of limited after-school hours and busy schedules. BJE works with the institutions who provide these services to families, helping them to enhance the skills of teachers and administrators and encouraging the development of innovative new models that respond to the realities of life in the 21st century. Using the existing networks of educators across Los Angeles and beyond, BJE works to connect teachers and administrators together in order to enhance their practice and provide dynamic, high quality educational experiences for the children who participate in their programs.
The BJE Center for Excellence in Complementary Jewish Education contributes significantly to the educational vision of complementary (religious) schools and provides assistance to schools, their educators, and students.
